Our pizza dough recipe creates a dough that is soft but still keeps a slight chew, just the way we love it. The best part is you can customize it according to your preference. If you like your pizza crust thin and crispy, you can press it out as flat as you like. But if you are a fan of thick crust, you can keep the dough thick.

This dough recipe has become my husband’s favourite. He requests it time and again, and I am pretty sure, once you try it, you won’t be ordering take-out pizzas anymore!

How to make Pizza Dough

The recipe is straightforward and requires just 6 ingredients. You don’t need any fancy flour; you can make it with all-purpose or bread flour. The process requires just one bowl (you can use a stand mixer if you want), about 3 seconds of kneading, and just 30 minutes to rise.

The ingredients you will need are warm water, honey, instant yeast, all-purpose flour or bread flour, salt, mixed herbs, and olive oil.

The method is quite simple – combine the flour, yeast, sugar, and salt in a large bowl. Stir well using a wooden spoon. Gradually add in the remaining flour until the dough forms into a cohesive, elastic ball. After the dough has risen, knead it briefly until smooth, and then work it into a 12″ circle.

Once you have your dough ready, you can add your desired toppings and bake it in a preheated oven.

And there you have it, homemade pizza dough that’s easy to make and absolutely delicious. Enjoy your homemade pizza with your favourite toppings!

Instructions

  1. Add yeast and honey to the warm water and give a gentle whist to combine. Leave for 5-10 minutes until nice and foamy.

  2. In a mixing bowl with a dough hook attachment, add all of the other ingredients (flour, salt, mixed herbs, olive oil) and knead until a smooth cohesive dough forms, around 5 minutes.

If you don't have a mixer with a dough hook you can knead by hand. Depending on the humidity of your environment you may need to add more flour - add tablespoon at a time until the dough comes together.
  3. Grease a bowl with a little bit of olive oil, and place in the dough. Cover with cling film or a damp towel, and leave to rest for 30 minutes.

Ideally the dough should be left at a warm room temperature, such as 25ºC. If your house is a little cooler, place in the oven with the lamp on to give a little more warmth.
  4. Remove the dough from the bowl, and flatten in to a pizza shape

If you like thin pizzas, divide the dough in to two and shape the pizzas getting them nice and thin.
  5. Place pizza on to a baking sheet, brush with some olive oil and top with all of your favourite pizza toppings.
  6. Bake at 215ºC for around 15minutes, or until looks nice and golden brown

Which flour should I use?

Bread of standard flour will work just fine. Bread flour has higher gluten and therefore will result in a slightly chewier, think Italian vibes, pizza. Standard flour will result in a lighter fluffier more American style pizza.
